Description

This is the regular class for those who have completed the beginner classes I and II.  Unlike the beginner classes, full uniform and armor are required.  Sparring is also involved, so come prepared!

Requirements

Aside from being physically fit to practice martial arts, you are required to bring the following equipments:

  1. Shinai (bamboo sword) with guard, size 39 for adult males and size 38 for adult females of average stature. Size for minors varies depending on height. Length of the handle (tsuka) should be approximately the same length as your forearm, measured from an end of the closed fist to the tip of the elbow. For more information on the length of the shinai, please refer to this link.
  2. Kendogi (kendo training uniform), consisting of hakama (pant/skirt) and kendo keikoki (shirt).
Note: do not wear any jewelry or watches. Bare feet only in the practice area!
  3. Kendo bogu (armor), composed of men (helmet), kote (gloves), do (torso protector), and tare (hip protector).

Fees

Fees for intermediate and advanced classes differ from beginner classes.

Membership fees for All United States Kendo Federation (AUSKF) and Southeast United States Kendo Federation (SEUSKF) must be paid in order to participate in tournaments, attend seminars, and take the promotion exams.  The fees vary, and are set annually by the respective organizations. Checks must be made to them separately.

In addition, Georgia Kendo Association (GKA) also charges its own membership fees.  Currently, annual fee is $30, and monthly fee for facility usage is $50.

A completed and signed registration form, liability release form, and fee payment check made out to “GKA” must be submitted at the first class.
